27/09/2011 - 27/09/2011QUALITY IN FACILITY MANAGEMENT AS QUALITY OF LIFE
With the arrival of six European standards in our field, an important period of international collaboration (29 countries) is nearing its end.
Now only one milestone remains: defining a European standard for benchmarking.
Since this standard is expected to be finalized in 2012, facility managers find themselves on the verge of a new era.
As a uniform framework in the area of FM, this standard will allow facility managers to communicate about their field internationally and to benchmark in areas such as costs, quality, processes, customer appreciation and customer satisfaction.
This step towards general and technical professionalization is proposed by:
Remko Oosterwijk

Remko Oosterwijk (62 y), who has been chairing the CEN/TC 348, i.e. the commission in charge of drawing up standards at European level, for close on 10 years now.
He has also been presiding over the Dutch Norm- en schaduwcommissie voor Standaardisatie in FM [Standards and Shadow Commission for Standardization in FM] for the past 15 years.
Remko Oosterwijk is the father of benchmarks in the Netherlands and is a visiting lecturer at institutes for Higher Vocational Education [HBO] and universities.
With 44 years of practical experience to his name, you can rest assured that he will be more than happy to share his wealth of research experience and his involvement in standardization with you.

In 2003, he set up the working group “oppervlaktemeting” [area measurement] within the Belgian Chapter of IFMA.
The standards governing the area measurement of buildings in 10 European countries were compared to one another.
Since 2009, Jos has been actively involved in the drawing up and promoting of a European standard for area measurements of buildings (EN 15221-6: Area measurement).
He was a member of a CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation) technical working group and chaired the Belgian “mirror committee”.
This committee, set up by the Belgian Institute for Standardization, evaluated the draft version of the standard and presented its views to the CEN.
