Speaker 2: Sustainable office space
Gare Maritime – A reference of circular construction (and much more)
The redevelopment of the Gare Maritime, a former freight station of 4ha, is a new covered neighbourhood with facilities for shopping, work, leisure activities, eating and drinking, and public events.
Originally constructed in 1907, the Gare Maritime was already a stunning building, and Extensa’s renovations has highlighted its beauty while increasing its functionality. The shell was completely restored and twelve wooden structures houses retail and offices. The three central spans remained free, creating generous space for people to stroll and relax together, or to attend events, exhibitions and festivals.
This largest wooden construction of Europe is equipped with the latest sustainable technics and has banned all fossil fuels. Green, lush vegetation were added under the wide-span station roof, giving a pleasant climate that will adapt to seasonal weather changes. From the depths of winter through the heat of summer, the Gare Maritime will be much more than a building – it will be a bustling neighbourhood for everyone in Brussels to experience.

||Speaker 5:Let's Green IT!
Digital transformation is at the heart of the strategy of most companies around the world. This is also the case in Facility Management. Obviously, no one would envisage to manage heating and air-conditioning without automation nowadays, and this goes way further: from booking meeting rooms through an app or a website, to a full FMIS (Facilities Management Information Systems) integrating all your services with those of your partners and providers, IT is everywhere. But what is the environmental impact of all these systems? And how can we reduce it? Let's find out with Olivier Vergeynst, from the Belgian Institute for Sustainable IT.
