As a technology company, Microsoft made the choice to use technology to support those 2 main objectives and to make their office a place where you feel home, open for their partners & customers, where everybody can achieve more.
When Microsoft joined their new office in Da Vinci 9 years ago, the main objective was to showcase the 'New Way of Working' using their own technology facilitating their way of working.
Still, the way people collaborate has evolved drastically the last years as well as their company objectives. Microsoft needed an environment which was flexible and would offer enough choices for people to better connect no matter in which team they are or which locations. They made f.i. the choice to have all employees on the same floor, offering more than 60 different meeting rooms, with all different set-ups. Employees will choose every day a different spot depending on what they want to achieve and who they want to collaborate with. Thanks to the 400 sensors placed in the Microsoft’s floors they will be able to locate their colleagues and see where meetings rooms are available or not, they will have constant information about the parameters of the buildings (light, temperature, noise, etc…) to decide in which environment they want to work. It was for them very important to open that office to their partners and customers and to have a dedicated floor for them, that is why their reception floor is fully open to their partners & customers, they will be able to book rooms, to come and gives workshops or coding classes. They will also have access to an area called “Dream the Future” where they will showcase their latest technology. In terms of design, we wanted people to feel home and to relate to Belgium. Art Nouveau has been chosen since it has been a rupture in architecture more than a century ago, it reflects the willingness to let the light come in and to connect to Nature. In their new office, nothing will be straight, it will be all curves and natural shapes, the Ginko leave will be their symbol, and you will be able to choose if you want to work on the Sea Side or in The Ardennes, if you want to have a meeting in Bigarreau or Monalisa.
